Melamine hydrobromide, abbreviated as MHB, has a bromine content >31%, a pH value of 3-5, and contains 40% nitrogen. It exhibits good temperature resistance and is a key raw material in flame-retardant formulations for polypropylene (PP). When compounded with aluminum hypophosphite, polymethyl methacrylate, etc., in a certain proportion, melamine hydrobromide(MHB) can be used as a highly efficient flame retardant for PP V-2. Furthermore, it does not require the addition of antimony trioxide (Sb2O3). This composite flame retardant features low addition amount (0.5-3%), high flame-retardant efficiency, no precipitation, and environmental friendliness.

III. Mechanism of Action
Melamine hydrobromide(MHB) decomposes upon heating, generating a large number of bromine free radicals, resulting in a gas-phase flame retardant effect. Aluminum hypophosphite decomposes upon heating, generating a large number of hypophosphatemoids, hydroxyl radicals, and phosphates. The acid source can better promote the decomposition of MHB to generate more bromine free radicals. The combination of bromine free radicals and phosphates produces a synergistic flame retardant effect, which is significantly improved compared to the flame retardant effect of either alone.
IV. Product Features
1. MHB can be used for flame retardancy of transparent PP. Currently, most powdered flame retardants or masterbatches have a significant adverse effect on transparent materials.
2. When compounded with aluminum hypophosphite and PMMA, only a very low addition amount is needed to achieve a V-2 flame retardancy rating, with almost no impact on the physical and mechanical properties of the material.
3. Melamine hydrobromide(MHB) formulations do not require the addition of antimony trioxide, offering a significant cost advantage over traditional bromine-antimony flame retardants. Currently, the high price of antimony trioxide has a significant impact on the flame retardant modification of plastics.
4. It does not antagonize with phosphorus-nitrogen flame retardants, talc, barium sulfate, etc., but carbon black, calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, etc., may have an adverse effect on the compounded system.
5. It exhibits superior resistance to exudation and migration compared to halogen-free flame retardants and does not affect the modification of polypropylene with high surface finish requirements.
V. Packaging and Storage
25 kg/bag, paper-plastic or PP woven bag. This is a general chemical and should be stored in a cool, dry warehouse.
Melamine hydrobromide(MHB) can meet the flame retardant requirements of PP products with high requirements for transparency, mechanical properties, electrical properties, and surface gloss. Its compounded flame retardants can be widely used in products such as PVC pipes, sheets, heater housings, hollow boards, electronic and electrical frame components, connectors, and mining PP sheets. When formulating PP flame retardants, avoid adding metal oxides such as zinc oxide, magnesium oxide, iron oxide, and copper oxide, otherwise the flame retardant system may be weakened or ineffective.
